Ghanaian defender Sam Kuffour has joined English National League South side Hornchurch FC on a season-long loan from Colchester United.

The 22-year-old, son of former Ghana and Bayern Munich legend Samuel Osei Kuffour, makes the move following a short stint with Isthmian League outfit Maldon & Tiptree.

Hornchurch manager Daryl McMahon expressed his excitement at securing the young centre-back’s services, highlighting the club’s commitment to aiding his development.

“I watched him a couple of times last season for Maldon & Tiptree and we knew about his potential,” McMahon said. “We’re really pleased that Colchester United and Danny Cowley have trusted us to work with him. We hope Sam can progress just as the other lads we had on loan last year did, and we’re confident he will.”

Kuffour made his debut for Hornchurch in their season opener, coming off the bench late on to help seal a 3–2 home victory over Weston-super-Mare.

A commanding presence in defence, Kuffour has made no secret of his ambition to follow in his father’s illustrious footsteps. He began his career in the academies of Brentford and West Ham United before moving to Israel to sign for Hapoel Be’er Sheva. He returned to England in 2022 to join Colchester United, enjoying loan spells with Cheshunt and Maldon & Tiptree along the way.
