Kwasi Sibo Registers Assured Display in Real Oviedo’s Opening Day Loss
Ghanaian midfielder Kwasi Sibo began life in Spain’s top flight with a full debut for Real Oviedo in their 2–0 defeat to Villarreal on Sunday.
The 27-year-old, who joined Oviedo this summer after spells in England, Portugal and Serbia, was handed a starting role in midfield at the Estadio de la Cerámica. Despite the result, Sibo produced a composed display, completing 87 per cent of his passes and recording 37 touches across the 90 minutes.
Villarreal, however, proved too strong on the day. First-half goals from Gerard Moreno and Álex Baena sealed victory for the Yellow Submarine, leaving Oviedo with a difficult start to their La Liga campaign.
Sibo, a product of Accra-based club Accra Lions and once on the books of Watford, will be hoping his assured performance provides a solid platform as Oviedo look to establish themselves in the top division this season.
