The Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association, Henry Asante Twum has quashed away talks within the media and among football supporters that referees who officiate Asante Kotoko games in the Ghana Premier League intentionally cheat the club.

Talks have been rife amongst football loving fans since the start of the 2022/23 season that officiating officials in the league deliberately decide games against Asante Kotoko.

The defending league champions have complained bitterly over the past weeks on how their matches have been decided due to bad officiating which is leading them to not able to defend the league trophy.

Teeming supporters of the club complained after Asante Kotoko’s away games to RTU, Bibiani Goldstars and Karela United that, referees denied them three points in those games.

That led to some of the supporters of the club visiting river dieties to curse referees who comes in games to intentionally cheat the club during league games.

However, Henry Twum believes the steps taken by some section of the supporters is wrong and would not solve the menace of poor officiating the league is facing.

“Cursing of referees is not the solution to solve bad officiating.

I’m not sure cursing referees is the best way to go. We can’t improve officiating by cursing referees.

If that is solution then Ghana would have cursed the center referee who officiated the world cup game between Ghana and Portugal.

No referee will deliberately decide to cheat Kotoko.

I have reported the referees performance to the review committee and the referee’s manager after games that I watched.” He told Akoma FM in Kumasi.

Asante Kotoko lost their Match Day 17 to Dreams FC at the Theatre of Dreams at Dawu by 2-0 last Sunday.

The first round of the Ghana Premier League 2022/23 season ended today at the Accra Sports Stadium between Lions and Medeama SC.
