Ghana Athletics President, Bawa Fuseini, has admitted that the nation’s athletes fell short of expectations at the CAA Region II Athletics Championships.
“Our performance was not at the same level as in past championships,” Fuseini conceded, noting that while the team showed glimpses of promise, the overall output did not match the high standards Ghana has set in recent years.
Ghana secured a handful of medals across various track and field disciplines, but the tally was lower compared to previous editions, where the country had consistently dominated the West African regional competition. Despite the dip, Fuseini remained upbeat about the athletes’ prospects, stressing that the championship provided a valuable platform for talent development and international exposure.
He further highlighted the need for sustained investment in training facilities, coaching, and athlete welfare to enable Ghana to compete more effectively against regional powerhouses such as Nigeria and Côte d’Ivoire.
Fuseini expressed confidence that with the right level of support and preparation, Ghana’s athletes will bounce back strongly in upcoming continental and global competitions.
