The world football governing body announced in December that the new format will take place whereby 32 clubs will be participating and comes off in June 2025.

European clubs from UEFA will have twelve (12) teams whiles South America clubs from CONMEBOL will have six (6) clubs making up the continents with the most number of clubs.

North America, Asia and Africa clubs will have four (4) clubs each representing the competition’s new format starting June 2025 whereas Oceania will have the least with one club.

Each of the continent could have an additional one club depending on the host country who will be having one club in the competition.

Saudi Arabia have been handed the right to host the maiden edition of the new format in 2025.

The country has been hosting final games of cup competitions in Europe especially in Italy and Spain and will receive this as a welcoming one.

Barcelona beat Real Madrid in the 2022/23 Spanish Super Cup by 3-1 in Saudi Arabia last month and Inter Milan defeated AC Milan 1-0 in the Italian Supercoppa in the same country.
