Asante Kotoko threaten to boycott ‘Champion of Champions’ clash unless venue is changed – Reports

Asante Kotoko Push for Venue Change Ahead of ‘Champion of Champions’ Clash with Bibiani GoldStars

2

Ghanaian giants Asante Kotoko have reportedly demanded a change of venue for their upcoming ‘Champion of Champions’ clash against Bibiani GoldStars, threatening to boycott the fixture if their request is not granted.

The ‘Champion of Champions’ is Ghana’s equivalent of the Super Cup, contested between the league champions and FA Cup winners of the previous season. The match serves as both a curtain-raiser to the new campaign and a battle for early bragging rights.

This year’s tie has been scheduled to take place at Dun’s Park, the home ground of Kotoko’s opponents and current champions, Bibiani GoldStars. However, the Porcupine Warriors are said to be concerned that playing at GoldStars’ fortress could hand their rivals an undue advantage. As a result, Kotoko are pushing the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to relocate the match to a neutral venue. Should this request be ignored, reports suggest the Kumasi-based club may refuse to honour the fixture.

As of now, Kotoko have yet to issue an official statement on the matter, and the reports remain speculative. Kickgh.com will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as they unfold.

The match is currently scheduled for Sunday, 31st August 2025.
