Breaking News: Jacob Kiplimo Smashes Course Record to Win Buenos Aires Half Marathon

4

Six months after breaking the half marathon world record, Jacob Kiplimo returned to the 21K stage on Sunday, storming to victory at the Buenos Aires Half Marathon with a winning time of 58:29 šŸ‡¦šŸ‡·.

Although the result may appear ā€œmodestā€ when set against the Ugandan star’s remarkable potential, it was largely influenced by the course design in Argentina’s capital, which is not particularly suited to world record attempts.

Nonetheless, Kiplimo etched his name into the event’s history by setting a new course record, eclipsing the previous best of 59:05 set by Kenya’s Bedan Karoki in 2019 by more than 30 seconds.

This performance further enhances the 24-year-old’s glittering rĆ©sumĆ©, as he now holds six of the 30 fastest half marathon times ever recorded — including three within the all-time top 10.

Attention now shifts to the Chicago Marathon in six weeks’ time, where Kiplimo will step up to the full 42K distance. After such a commanding display in Buenos Aires, the burning question remains: what kind of time can he deliver over the marathon?
