Former Arsenal striker Emmanuel Adebayor has drawn parallels between Pep Guardiola’s early days at Barcelona and Mikel Arteta’s current challenge at Arsenal.
“During Guardiola’s first year at Barcelona, he had the likes of Deco, Samuel Eto’o and Ronaldinho. He didn’t know who to select, and I believe Arteta is facing a similar situation now,” Adebayor remarked.
“He will constantly have players knocking on his door, insisting, ‘I want to play.’ That is where he must make a decision. Managing so many quality players is never easy. Everyone wants to feature week in, week out. Some are Brazilians, some are English, and all of them are internationals eager to represent their countries.
“To play for your national team, you must be a regular starter for your club. We’ll have to see how Arteta handles it, because this could become a real test for the club.”
