Desmond Ofei Appointed Head Coach of Ghana’s U23 National Team
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has confirmed the appointment of Desmond Ofei as the new Head Coach of the national Under-23 men’s team, the Black Meteors.

Ofei, who previously managed the Black Satellites (U20) and currently serves as an assistant coach with the senior national team, the Black Stars, will now lead the Meteors as they prepare for upcoming continental and international competitions, including qualification for the 2027 Africa U23 Cup of Nations and the Olympic Games.
He will be supported on the technical bench by Yaw Preko, a former Ghana international and experienced youth coach, together with Baba Nuhu Malam, head coach of the Black Maidens (U17 women’s team) and one of the country’s most respected tacticians in women’s football.
The GFA expressed confidence that the trio’s blend of experience at youth, women’s and senior levels will provide the necessary expertise to build a competitive side capable of restoring Ghana’s presence on the Olympic football stage.
The Black Meteors last qualified for the men’s Olympic football tournament in 2004 in Athens, and the new technical team has been tasked with ending that two-decade absence.
