John Cobbinah Shines on Return as Soccer Intellectuals Edge Nsuopun Fidelity 1–0

After spending 212 days sidelined through injury, John Cobbinah made a memorable return for Soccer Intellectuals, providing a vital assist in the club’s opening-day 1–0 victory over Nsuopun Fidelity in the National Division One League.

The skilful midfielder, a proud graduate of the club’s former youth development system, played a key role in his gradual return to competitive football. His perfectly weighted free-kick found Nana Abakah, who rose highest to head home the decisive goal, sealing all three points for the Senya Bereku-based side.

Speaking after the match, a delighted John Cobbinah expressed his joy at returning to the pitch.

“It feels amazing to be back after such a long and difficult recovery. I’ve worked hard to regain my fitness, and to contribute immediately with an assist is very special. The support from my teammates and coaches kept me going throughout my rehabilitation,” he said.

Head Coach Richard Daniel Ansah commended Cobbinah’s professionalism and influence on the team.

“John’s return is a big boost for us. He brings composure, vision, and set-piece quality that we’ve missed. His assist today shows his class and importance to our project this season,” he remarked.

The coach further explained the club’s decision to gradually reintegrate the midfielder after his long absence.

“We used him for the last 10 minutes in the game to help build his confidence. We know his potential and wanted to manage his recovery carefully,” Coach Ansah added. “After losing to Ashgold earlier, it was difficult, but today’s result shows our progress. In our next game, we must bring at least a point back home.”

The rest of the technical team also praised the team’s development, noting that several players—including Cobbinah—had come through the club’s youth system.

“We have high hopes for this group. It’s rewarding to see our young players maturing and contributing at this level,” he said.

Soccer Intellectuals, based in Senya Bereku in the Central Region, continue their campaign with renewed confidence as they aim for promotion to the Ghana Premier League this season.
