Black Stars goalkeeper Benjamin Asare received a guard of honour from his Hearts of Oak teammates and the technical team in celebration of his outstanding contribution to Ghana’s qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The ceremony, held at the club’s training ground in Accra, saw players, coaches, and staff applaud Asare as he made his way onto the pitch, acknowledging his heroics between the posts during Ghana’s decisive qualifying campaign.
The 33-year-old shot-stopper played a crucial role in the Black Stars’ journey, producing a series of commanding performances and vital saves that secured Ghana’s place at the global showpiece.
Speaking after the brief event, Asare expressed his gratitude to his club and teammates for the gesture, saying:
“It’s an incredible feeling to be recognised by my team. Qualifying for the World Cup is a dream come true, and I’m proud to have represented both my club and country.”
Hearts of Oak’s head coach also praised Asare’s dedication and professionalism, noting that his success with the national team serves as an inspiration to other players within the club.
The goalkeeper is expected to rejoin national team preparations later this month as Ghana begins its build-up to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, set to be hosted across the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
