Asante Kotoko head coach Abdul Karim Zito was left distraught after his side’s humiliating exit from the CAF Confederation Cup at the hands of Moroccan giants Wydad AC.
The Porcupine Warriors suffered a crushing 5–1 defeat in the return leg in Casablanca on Friday night, completing a 6–1 aggregate loss that ended their continental campaign at the preliminary stage.
Despite putting up a spirited performance in the first leg in Kumasi, where they narrowly lost 1–0, Kotoko were completely outclassed in Morocco. Wydad’s attacking prowess proved too much to handle, as the Ghanaian side struggled to cope with the tempo and precision of the hosts.
Zito, speaking after the match, expressed deep disappointment, describing the result as “painful and difficult to accept,” while acknowledging that his side must learn valuable lessons from the experience.
The heavy defeat means Asante Kotoko will now shift focus to the Ghana Premier League, where they will aim to regroup and bounce back stronger after their early continental exit.
