“Zito: Every Team Saves Its Best Game for Kotoko”
Asante Kotoko Head Coach, Abdul Karim Zito, has voiced his frustration after his side were held to an unexpectedly challenging encounter against bottom-placed Basake Holy Stars, insisting that their spirited performance was unlike what the league has seen from them in recent weeks.
Speaking to the press after the match, Coach Zito commended the opposition’s effort but questioned their consistency throughout the season.
“If Basake Holy Stars had played other opponents the same way they played against us today, they wouldn’t be sitting at the bottom of the table. But every team wants to beat Kotoko,” he remarked.
He added that the determination and resilience shown by Basake Holy Stars reflected a pattern in the Ghana Premier League, where teams raise their game specifically when facing Kotoko due to the club’s history, prestige, and the desire to make a statement.
Coach Zito emphasised that the Porcupine Warriors must be prepared for such heightened intensity in every match.
“When teams face Kotoko, they see it as an opportunity to prove themselves. We always expect a difficult match because opponents feel they have nothing to lose and everything to gain,” he noted.
Despite the challenge, the Kotoko manager expressed confidence that his squad would respond positively, highlighting the need for improved concentration, sharper finishing, and better control of the game in their subsequent fixtures.
The result leaves Kotoko reassessing their strategy as they continue their push for a stronger position on the league table.
