Samuel Eto’o re-elected Cameroon FA president with overwhelming 97.7% mandate

Football icon Samuel Eto’o has been re-elected as President of the Cameroonian Football Federation (FECAFOOT), securing an emphatic mandate to lead the organisation for another four-year term.

The 43-year-old former Barcelona and Inter Milan striker ran unopposed in the presidential election held on Saturday, November 29, 2025, earning near-unanimous approval from voting delegates. Official results confirmed that Eto’o received 85 out of the 87 votes cast, with the remaining two ballots declared invalid.

His re-election extends his leadership through 2029 and signals strong internal confidence in his vision for Cameroonian football. Eto’o, a four-time African Footballer of the Year and one of the most decorated players in the continent’s history, was first elected in December 2021 on a platform centred on transparency and administrative reform.

His first term, however, was not without challenges. He faced legal scrutiny, internal disputes, and high-profile disagreements with the Ministry of Sports. Still, he advanced key initiatives, including professionalising the domestic league, strengthening national teams across age groups, and improving football infrastructure nationwide.

Eto’o is expected to use his second term to consolidate these reforms while navigating the complex political and administrative landscape surrounding Cameroonian football.

In a statement following his victory, Eto’o expressed gratitude for the renewed trust placed in him and reaffirmed his commitment to transforming the country’s football ecosystem.

With 97.7 percent of the valid votes, his victory reflects a decisive show of support from FECAFOOT delegates who appear determined to continue under his stewardship.
