Ghana Black Stars player and former Bayern Munich and Galatasaray defender Derrick Köhn, now plying his trade with Union Berlin, has arrived in Ghana ahead of the Christmas festivities, adding to the growing list of international football stars enjoying the country’s vibrant Detty December season.

The 26-year-old left-back touched down at the Kotoka International Airport to a colourful and ceremonial reception, complete with traditional Adowa dancers, whose rhythmic movements and drumming set a festive tone for his homecoming. Smartly dressed and visibly delighted, Köhn acknowledged the warm welcome as onlookers and fans gathered to catch a glimpse of the Black Stars player.

Köhn’s arrival underscores Ghana’s rising appeal as a preferred holiday destination for footballers and members of the diaspora during the Christmas and New Year period. Detty December, characterised by cultural displays, music, nightlife and tourism activities, has in recent years become a global attraction, drawing celebrities, athletes and visitors from across Europe and beyond.

The Union Berlin defender is expected to spend the festive period reconnecting with family and friends, while also soaking in Ghana’s rich culture and hospitality before returning to club duties in Germany. His visit further highlights the strong bond between Ghanaian players abroad and their roots at home, especially during the Christmas season.
