0 4

Team Nigeria made a strong start to the 24th African Senior Athletics Championships in Accra, Ghana, clinching two medals on the opening day of competition on Tuesday.

The medals came in the women’s discus event, where Divine Oladipo delivered an impressive performance on her international debut for Nigeria to secure the silver medal. Fellow Nigerian thrower Obiageri Amaechi also mounted the podium after claiming bronze, ensuring a double medal haul for the West African giants in the event.

Oladipo’s remarkable showing marked a memorable beginning to her international athletics career, while Amaechi’s podium finish further underlined Nigeria’s strength in the field events.

Nigeria arrived in Accra with the largest contingent at the championships, comprising 41 athletes — 17 men and 24 women — competing across 26 track and field events.

With several of their top athletes still in action, Team Nigeria will be confident of adding more medals to their tally as the continental showpiece gathers momentum at the University of Ghana Stadium in Accra.
