Black Stars winger Abdul Fatawu Issahaku has expressed confidence in Ghana’s readiness ahead of Wednesday’s opening fixture of the 2026 FIFA World Cup against Panama in Toronto.

Speaking after Sunday’s training session at Bryant University, the Leicester City forward said the atmosphere in camp remains positive, with the squad fully focused on making a strong start to the tournament.

The 22-year-old revealed that preparations have been progressing well and praised the intensity of the training sessions as the Black Stars continue to fine-tune their approach for the crucial encounter.

“So far, everything has been going well. The energy in camp is excellent and everyone is ready,” Issahaku said.

“Training has been positive and we are continuing to prepare for the match. Personally, I’ve enjoyed the sessions and I can already see the improvements. We’re getting fitter and better prepared for the challenge ahead.”

The World Cup in North America marks Issahaku’s second appearance on football’s biggest stage, having featured for Ghana at the 2022 tournament in Qatar. He believes the experience gained from his first campaign will help him contribute more effectively this time around.

“It’s always a dream come true to represent your country at a World Cup,” he added.

“I feel privileged to be part of this team once again. My first World Cup was a valuable learning experience, and now I want to give everything I have to help the team achieve even greater success.”

Issahaku also expressed his confidence in the quality and determination within the Black Stars squad, insisting the players are united in their ambition to make a meaningful impact at the tournament.

“I have great belief in this team,” he said. “Everyone is committed, and the work we’re doing in training is helping us improve every day. We’re becoming fitter, stronger and more prepared to move forward in the competition.”

The Leicester City winger concluded with a heartfelt message to supporters back home, urging Ghanaians to continue backing the team throughout their World Cup journey.

“My message to Ghanaians is simple: keep supporting us and keep us in your prayers. We will continue working hard to make the nation proud.”

Ghana begin their World Cup campaign against Panama on Wednesday in Toronto, with the Black Stars aiming to secure a positive result in their opening match.
