George Afriyie: “Hughton to influence players with new role”

Former GFA President aspirant, George Afriyie has share his thoughts on the appointment of new Black Stars Coach Chris Hughton.

George Afriyie believes Chris Hughton has had a promotion on his duties at the senior national team, Black Stars from a mere technical advisor to a substantive head coach.

He insists that his position could not afford him the opportunity to bring to bare his tactical acumen as an advisor.

However, his new position gives him every strength to influence decision making to the best of the team.

“We have to agree that Chris [Hughton] wasn’t the head coach. He was just an advisor. With his position, he could advise but if the head coach doesn’t go with the advice there is little he can do.”

“It is a new king new law. I know Chris [Hughton] that from his track record in the EPL, he would extend invitations to those players who became the center of gravity,” he told Ghana Sports Online.

The former Tottenham Hotspur assistant coach was appointed the Head Coach of the Black Stars last Sunday.

He will lead his first game for the stars in the AFCON 2023 Qualifier against Angola in a double-header encounter later in March.
