Tunisia Part Ways with Head Coach Sabri Lamouchi Following Heavy World Cup Defeat to Sweden

The Tunisian Football Federation has dismissed head coach Sabri Lamouchi with immediate effect following the Carthage Eagles’ humiliating 5–1 defeat to Sweden in their opening Group F match at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The decision was confirmed just hours after Tunisia suffered one of the heaviest defeats in their World Cup history, with the North African side producing a lacklustre display that left supporters and football pundits stunned.

Expectations had been high heading into the tournament, but Tunisia were outclassed by an impressive Swedish side, who dominated proceedings from start to finish and exposed significant weaknesses in the Carthage Eagles’ defence.

Lamouchi, who took charge of the national team amid hopes of guiding Tunisia beyond the group stage for the first time, now departs after mounting pressure over the team’s recent performances and tactical approach.

The Tunisian Football Federation is expected to announce an interim coach in the coming days as the team prepares for its remaining Group F fixtures against Japan and the Netherlands.

With qualification hopes hanging by a thread, Tunisia face a race against time to regroup and restore confidence ahead of their crucial upcoming matches.
