The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has taken a major step towards securing the future of Ghana football after successfully organising its inaugural UK-based talent identification programme for young players of Ghanaian descent.

A total of 40 promising footballers, born in the United Kingdom to Ghanaian families and currently attached to Category One academies, took part in the exercise held in Bromley on Friday.

The initiative, organised by the GFA in partnership with Coach Hene Sports Club, the Ghana High Commission in the United Kingdom, and Prince Lamona Consult, was aimed at identifying elite young talents who could strengthen Ghana’s national teams in the years ahead.

Players within the U15 to U20 age categories, representing some of England’s biggest clubs including Chelsea, Everton, Manchester City and Arsenal, were put through a series of technical and tactical assessments during the highly competitive session.

The programme was supervised by Ghana FA Technical Director Prof. Joseph Kwame Mintah and FIFA Talent Coach Stuart McLaren, alongside coaches from Coach Hene Sports Club, all of whom closely monitored standout performers throughout the exercise.

Officials believe the initiative marks an important milestone in strengthening ties with the Ghanaian football diaspora while widening the pool of talent available for the country’s national teams.

The atmosphere in Bromley was described as energetic and competitive, with several players impressing scouts with their technical quality, athleticism and understanding of the game.

Following the success of the maiden programme, the Ghana FA is expected to expand the project in the coming months to include players from Category Two and Three academies, as well as grassroots football structures across the UK and other countries with strong Ghanaian communities.

The exercise forms part of the Association’s broader long-term strategy to identify and nurture talented players of Ghanaian heritage around the world as the nation seeks sustained success on the international stage.
