Kotei Neequaye Resigns as GBA President, Declares Political War on Kofi Adams and Nii Lante Vanderpuye

Former President of the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA), Abraham Kotei Neequaye, has launched a scathing attack on the current Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, and former Sports Minister, Nii Lante Vanderpuye, following his resignation from the GBA.

At a press conference held on Monday, June 30, 2025, Neequaye confirmed his decision to step down from his role in sports administration to fully re-engage in frontline politics. He cited persistent political interference and what he described as “sabotage” in Ghana’s sporting space as key factors behind his departure.

“The Minister told me to my face that he can’t work with me. Fine — I’m a politician, he’s a politician. I’m leaving sports so we can go back and fight,” he said, expressing frustration and resolve.

Neequaye was firm in distancing the Ghana Boxing Authority from political entanglements, insisting that sports institutions must remain independent and focused on talent development rather than being used as political tools.

“I’ve always maintained that sports should be free from politics. Let politicians deal with politicians — and leave our sports bodies to do their work,” he stated.

Issuing a direct challenge, the former GBA boss openly confronted both Kofi Adams and Nii Lante Vanderpuye.

“You don’t have that right, Kofi Adams. I will fight you — and I’ll fight Nii Lantey too,” he declared emphatically.

In the wake of his resignation, 2nd Vice President Roger Barnor has officially assumed the role of President of the Ghana Boxing Authority.
