Ranked as the third-best food festival in the world, the Food Sports competition is a thrilling, five-day non-stop culinary showdown. Held in a high-energy, tournament-style arena at the World Food Championships, this event brings intense, fast-paced cooking battles to the forefront of competitive food sport.
The High Frontier is excited to make this BIG announcement for Ghana and begin our transition to one of the largest sporting events in the world. Ghana’s maiden food sport club, the Food Bowl, is a culinary passport for national and regional culinary teams, chefs, and home cooks who wish to compete at international culinary demonstrations at major international culinary competitions powered by The High Frontier.
Ghana has also been invited to the World Food Championships. Preparations are in full swing as Ghana gears up to compete in Dessert, Bacon and Sandwich categories. Bringing the Ghanaian Chefs and Home Cooks to WFC for their first ever live appearance will be a very rich historic experience. Our mission is to bring unique access to the world’s biggest sporting events and our partnership with the global sporting organizers to support Team Ghana on and off the field of play. The Food Bowl is an exclusive culinary sports association that organizes curated events for its members, fostering a sense of community among individuals passionate about both gastronomy and competitive sports.This expansion indicates a commitment to promoting and supporting the competitive cooking scene in Ghana, potentially through the establishment of a dedicated committee responsible for overseeing these endeavors.
A 15 member committee has been put in place to help propel the club’s mandate. This committee includes members from organizations relevant to the food and sporting industries. This distinguished group of professionals is led by Mr. Kenneth Annang, COO of Kenmerdes Group and the Head of PR for the committee. The members consists of Agency and Municipality Appointees: Representatives from Okaikoi South Sub-Metro Director, Mrs. Mercy Y.A.A. Odoi and Mr. James Odoi Wilson, Greater Accra Technical Director of the National Sports Authority (NSA), the Team Captain of Food Bowl, Mr. Francisco Cofie Apenu and also CEO of Cake Elements, Francis Asare, Ph. D., Mrs. Fafali Azaglo of Selasi Farms & Groceries, Elikem Odoom, Managing Partner, The High Frontier, Ghana, Chef Maame Serwaa Appiahene Gyamfi, award-winning sports journalist and commentator for BBC Sports, George Addo Jnr and also entertainment host at GBC Obonu TV/ musician, Mr. Daniel Neequaye Kotey(Klala), Mr. Enoch Worlanyo(Prof. E.K. Wallace),Alex Kobina Stonne, Ms. Joyce Aku Menns, representatives from the media fraternity who will speak on a wide range of topics including event coordination, education, sustainability, ethics and safe sport, demonstrating a comprehensive approach aimed at strengthening the Club.
The World Food Championships (WFC) has expanded its international reach and has formed partnerships with various countries, including Ghana.
So far, The President of The High Frontier, Ms Annie Hiamey and Mr. Enoch Worlanyo(Prof. E.K. Wallace) of Asempa 94.7 FM are the only certified WFC International food judges in Ghana; and were among the selected judges for the prestigious event which took place in Dallas, Texas in November, 2021.
Ms. Hiamey, the President of The High Frontier is currently working in partnership with WFC to get Ghana’s food onto the world food ranking and partnership opportunities and also on getting the exclusive holder of a WFC National Partnership for Ghana that will enable the company conduct exclusive qualifiers, hosting certified judging classes, licensing official products, and creating state-endorsed teams for the event’s annual championship.
The future of sports tourism in Ghana hangs in the balance, with the potential to invigorate the local economy and foster a vibrant community spirit, we anticipate this food sport will become another signature event, bringing a similar level of economic benefit to Ghana. The World Food Championships (WFC) is a year-long global competition that seeks out the best teams, home cooks, and chefs in the realm of competitive food sport. This worldwide search culminates in a multi-day, high-stakes culinary showdown, where participants compete for the title of World Food Champion and the chance to win hundreds of thousands of dollars in cash and prizes.
The World Food Championships (WFC) will be held in Indianapolis at the Indiana State Fairgrounds & Event Center from October 16-19, 2025.
