Mrs. Emilia Addo

The athletics fraternity in Ghana is in mourning following the passing of Mrs Emilia Addo (née Hammond), the beloved mother of former President of the Ghana Athletics Association (GAA) and economist, George Haldane-Lutterodt.

Mrs Addo passed away peacefully on Thursday, 11th July 2025, in Tema. She was widely admired for her warmth, grace, and unwavering dedication to family, serving as a steadfast source of support throughout her children’s lives — particularly during Mr. Lutterodt’s distinguished career in economics and sports administration.

Her death has been met with deep sorrow from family, friends, and the wider Ghanaian sporting community, many of whom have extended their heartfelt condolences to the Lutterodt family.

Mr. George Lutterodt, a veteran Economist and respected athletics official, played a significant role in the revival of athletics in Ghana during his tenure as GAA President. Among his numerous contributions, he is especially remembered for personally sponsoring junior Olympic gold medallist Martha Bissah to pursue her education in the United States — a gesture that profoundly impacted her life and inspired many young Ghanaian athletes.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by the family in due course.

May her soul rest in perfect peace.
