The Black Satellites of Ghana have booked their place in the semi-finals of the 2025 WAFU Zone B U20 Championship with a narrow but vital 1-0 win over Benin in their second group game.

After being held to a 1-1 draw in their opening match against Nigeria, the pressure was on Coach Desmond Ofei’s side to deliver — and they did just that.

The only goal of the match came in the 52nd minute, when forward Bless Ege broke the deadlock with a well-placed finish following sustained pressure from the Ghanaian attack. The striker latched onto a through ball inside the box and calmly slotted it past the Beninese goalkeeper.

Despite a late push from the junior Cheetahs of Benin, Ghana’s defence held firm, with goalkeeper Michael Armah making a key save in the dying minutes to preserve the lead and secure all three points.

Ghana finish the group stage with 4 points, enough to secure second place behind Nigeria and earn qualification to the semi-final stage. The win means they remain on course to fight for the regional title and secure a spot in the 2025 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations.

The Black Satellites will face the winner of Group B in the semi-finals later this week, with opponents likely to include Côte d’Ivoire, Burkina Faso or Togo depending on final group results.

Fans turned up in numbers at the Prampram venue to cheer on the young Ghanaian side, who delivered a spirited performance in front of the home crowd.
