Kevin-Prince Boateng has, over the years, opened up about the events that led to his and Sulley Muntari’s dismissal from Ghana’s Black Stars camp during the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.

In past interviews, Boateng claimed the primary reason for their expulsion stemmed from speaking out against how the national team was being managed. He criticised the Ghana Football Association (GFA) for poor organisation, lack of professionalism, and unresolved issues over player payments. Boateng stated that when he voiced his concerns—particularly about training conditions and delayed bonuses—he was met with hostility from officials.

The situation reportedly escalated after a heated verbal altercation with then-coach Kwesi Appiah during training. Sulley Muntari, on the other hand, was accused of physically assaulting a GFA official (Moses Armah Parker), which compounded the disciplinary issues in camp.

As a result, both players were suspended indefinitely and sent home before Ghana’s final group game against Portugal.

Boateng has consistently maintained that he was not disrespectful, but only demanded better conditions and transparency for the players. He has also insisted he would speak out again if placed in a similar situation.
