Team Ghana has proudly returned from the World Armwrestling Championship in Albena, Bulgaria, with a total of three medals, showcasing the country’s growing strength in the sport.
Prison Officer Mabel Yeboah, competing in the fiercely contested women’s 60kg category, proved her resilience and skill by securing one silver and one bronze medal. Her performance underlined her status as one of Ghana’s most consistent athletes on the international stage.
In the junior division, Blessed Abeka Nunoo of the Ghana Immigration Service also made the nation proud, winning a silver medal in the 60kg category. His success highlights the bright future of armwrestling in Ghana, with young talents rising through the ranks.
The achievement was made possible through the support of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), who powered Team Ghana’s participation in the global competition.
President of the Ghana Armwrestling Federation and Vice-President of the World Armwrestling Federation, Charles Osei Asibey, praised the athletes for their performance, saying:
“This is a proud moment for Ghana. Our athletes have once again proven that with determination and the right support, we can compete with the best in the world. These medals are not just for the team, but for the entire nation, and we will continue to build on this success to make Ghana the hub of armwrestling in Africa.”
The Ghana Armwrestling Federation extended gratitude to all stakeholders, noting that these victories reflect not only individual brilliance but also the steady growth of the sport across the country.
