Homowo Ampe Competition 2025 Set for Accra Sports Stadium
The 2025 edition of the Homowo Ampe Competition will take place at the Accra Sports Stadium on Saturday, 20 September.

The event, organised by the Women’s Sports Association of Ghana (WOSPAG) under the leadership of its President, Mrs Joyce Mahama, promises to be an exciting spectacle. According to Mrs Mahama, this year’s programme will be particularly engaging as the standard of the game has significantly improved.
She further emphasised WOSPAG’s commitment to ensuring that Ampe gains international recognition as a traditional sport.
“Other African countries play a similar game under different names, but our focus is to establish Ampe as the official name for the sport,” she stated.

This year’s competition will feature participation from students of selected schools, as well as fun clubs and keep-fit organisations, making it both competitive and festive.
Ampe, a traditional Ghanaian game predominantly played by young girls, involves rhythmic clapping, jumping and footwork in a test of skill, speed and coordination. Beyond being a recreational activity, the game holds cultural value as a symbol of community bonding and heritage, especially during festivals such as Homowo.
