Wydad secure crucial 1-0 away win against Kotoko in Accra
Wydad pulled off a vital 1-0 victory against Asante Kotoko at the Accra Sports Stadium in the first leg of their CAF Confederation Cup Preliminary Round 2 clash.
The Moroccan side’s winning goal came early in the second half when Bakasu struck in the 47th minute, giving them a narrow but important lead heading into the return leg. The next encounter is set for Casablanca on Friday, October 24, 2025.
The game was intense and evenly matched until just after halftime when Bakasu capitalized on a defensive lapse from Kotoko to put Wydad ahead. His finish injected energy into the Moroccan side and put pressure on the Ghanaian hosts to respond quickly on home turf.
However, Kotoko’s hopes took a major hit in the 49th minute when goalkeeper Camara handled the ball outside the penalty area. The referee immediately showed a red card, sending the Kotoko keeper off and reducing the home team to 10 players.
This dramatic moment shifted momentum decisively in favour of Wydad.
Despite being a man down, Kotoko fought valiantly to maintain their shape and created some chances, but they could not find the equalizer.
Wydad defended solidly to protect their slim advantage, knowing an away goal could prove critical in the upcoming second leg. With the return leg approaching, Wydad hold the upper hand thanks to Bakasu’s strike and the red card incident.
Kotoko will have to regroup and fight hard in Casablanca if they are to overturn the deficit and keep their campaign alive.
