The championship is scheduled to take place at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium, Legon, from 10 to 17 May, 2026, and organisers are stepping up efforts to ensure every aspect of the event meets the required standards.

During the inspection, the delegation assessed progress on key areas including the competition track, field event zones, athlete warm-up facilities, seating arrangements, security measures and general infrastructure around the venue.

Bawa Fuseini expressed confidence in the level of preparation so far, while stressing the importance of maintaining momentum in the final weeks before the event begins. He also praised the collaborative efforts of stakeholders working to deliver a successful championship for Ghana and the continent.

The African Senior Athletics Championships is expected to bring together some of the continent’s top athletes, providing thrilling competition across a range of track and field disciplines.

For Ghana, hosting the event is seen as an important opportunity to strengthen its reputation as a destination for international sport and to inspire the next generation of athletics talent.
