African Boxing Holds Historic Inaugural Congress in Lagos

LAGOS, Nigeria — African Boxing successfully held its inaugural Congress on December 28, 2025, at the Lamiridge Hotel Conference Hall in Lagos, Nigeria. Conducted in a hybrid format, the event commenced at 11:45 a.m. local time and attracted representatives from 20 National Boxing Federations, comfortably meeting the required quorum.

Participants unanimously approved the Congress agenda, minutes of previous meetings, the Strategic Plan, and the Draft Statutes. Leadership elections were conducted by acclamation, with Mr. Solomon Desmond Kargbo elected as President, Mr. Omonlei Yakubu and Mrs. Anta Gueye as Vice Presidents, and Alaeldin Alfatih, Dirang Thipe, Kpako Jules, Awil Gele, Fuseni Dauda, and Maria Obono as Board Members.
In the immediate post-Congress Board meeting, Mr. Cyprien Tamo was nominated as Secretary General. The Board also began discussions on the official African Boxing logo and the structure and forthcoming launch of a continental league.
Widely regarded as a landmark moment for the sport across the continent, the Congress concluded with a celebratory Gala Night. The African Boxing Secretariat hailed the gathering as a crucial step toward greater unity and development of boxing throughout Africa.
