Boham Backs Allotey, Takyi and Rising Stars for World Title Glory Within Two Years

Veteran boxing consultant Yoofi Boham has backed a new crop of Ghanaian fighters to capture world titles within the next two years, singling out Theophilus Allotey, Daniel Gorsh, John Laryea and Samuel Takyi as leading prospects.

In an exclusive interview, Boham expressed confidence in the quartet’s potential, insisting they can bring glory to Ghana if properly managed and guided. He noted that while local boxers and managers are working hard, the complex politics of international boxing remains a significant hurdle.

The experienced advisor urged promoters and matchmakers to secure more international fight nights in Ghana to provide a platform for emerging talent. He also commended outfits such as Box Office, Bishop Boxing Promotions and Legacy Rise Sports Promotions for their continued efforts in developing the sport.

Two of his tipped fighters underlined their credentials last weekend. Allotey retained his WBO Global title with victory over Namibia’s Jonas Erastus and added the WBA Africa Gold super flyweight belt, while Laryea, nicknamed “Expensive Boxer”, stopped Namalambo to defend his WBA Africa featherweight crown, edging closer to a world title shot.

Boham, who has played key roles in the careers of Ghanaian greats including Azumah Nelson, Ike Quartey and Isaac Dogboe, further called on stakeholders to prioritise integrity and long-term development over financial gain.

He added that with proper investment and exposure, Ghana’s new amateur team could also secure medals at major events such as the 2026 Commonwealth Games and the 2026 Summer Youth Olympics.
