Ghana Edge Uganda on 3-2 Aggregate to Secure FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup Spot in Poland

The Uganda women’s national under-20 football team held Ghana women’s national under-20 football team to a 1-1 draw in the second leg of the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup qualifier, but Ghana progressed 3-2 on aggregate to secure a place at the global tournament.

Having carried a slender 2-1 advantage from the first leg in Accra, the Black Princesses  knowing that avoiding defeat would be enough to seal qualification. The West Africans showed composure and resilience against a determined Ugandans.

Uganda started brightly in front of their home supporters and pushed for an early breakthrough as they attempted to overturn the first-leg deficit. However, Ghana remained organised defensively and gradually settled into the contest.

The Black Princesses eventually found the crucial away goal to place themselves firmly in control of the tie, silencing the home crowd and increasing the pressure on the hosts. Uganda responded strongly and managed to restore parity on the day, but Ghana held on to secure qualification with a 3-2 aggregate triumph.

The result marks another significant achievement for Ghana’s women’s youth football programme, with the Black Princesses once again booking their place on the world stage. Head coach Charles Sampson had expressed confidence ahead of the decisive encounter, insisting his side were fully prepared for the challenge.

Ghana entered the return fixture with confidence after staging a spirited comeback to win the first leg 2-1 at the Accra Sports Stadium, courtesy of goals from Priscilla Mensah and Latifah Abesik.

The Black Princesses will now turn their attention to preparations for the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Poland, where they will aim to make a strong impression against the best young talents from across the globe.
