Former world junior welterweight champion Ricky Hatton has been found dead at his home, according to the Manchester Evening News. He was 46.

Hatton, who shocked the boxing world in 2005 by defeating Kostya Tszyu, went on to defend his title four times before moving up in weight. He retired in 2012 after consecutive defeats, including a brutal knockout by Manny Pacquiao in 2009.

The Manchester-born fighter, who held a career record of 45 wins and 3 defeats with 32 knockouts, was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 2024. He had recently announced plans for a comeback fight in Dubai this December.

Hatton rose to international fame in 2005 when he stunned Kostya Tszyu to capture the world junior welterweight crown. Known as “The Hitman”, he defended the belt four times and became a national sporting hero with his relentless style and passionate fanbase.

In 2024, his remarkable achievements were recognised with induction into the International Boxing Hall of Fame. More recently, he had spoken of a return to the ring in Dubai later this year.

Hatton leaves behind a legacy as one of Britain’s greatest fighters and a true people’s champion.
