Mohammed Kudus was on the score sheet for his side Ajax Amsterdam in their Eredivisie game against Sparta Rotterdam for Match Day 22 of the 2022/23 season.

He scored the 4th goal of the side on the 84th minutes from a well-taken free kick and dedicated it to the late Christian Atsu Twasam.

Christian Atsu Twasam is a Ghanaian footballer who played for Hatayaspor in the Turkish Super Lig who lost his life in the tragic earthquake that occurred in Turkey on 6th February, 2023 which took the life of over 45,000.

After scoring the goal for Ajax, Kudus Mohammed took off his shirt to show the inscription “RIP ATSU” which warranted a booking according to the football laws.

However, referee of the game Pol Van Boekel did not show the yellow card to Kudus Mohammed to empathize for the lost of the player in the tragic incident.

The Ghanaian praised the decision of the referee not to punish him for taking of his shirt in empathising for the great lost.

“We have football rules but this is beyond football, this is about life and death. The referee told me it’s not allowed (shirt removal) but he understands because this is a bigger situation than football. A big respect from me to the referee.”

Dusan Tadic scored twice for Ajax, Kenneth Taylor and Kudus Mohammed got the other two for the side.

Kudus Mohammed increases his goal tally to nine in the Eredivisie with one assist in the 2022/23 season.
